Tough Trip, But We Got Here

Thursday evening, we got on this airplane and left JFK.

We thought ... We ended up spending an hour and a half on the runway waiting for traffic to clear. Then we could begin our 10.5 hour flight. We did not sleep much, and, as I write this, I remain desperately in need of sleep.

On the plane was sat with this interesting and helpful member of the Israeli army.

We flew over Greece.

When we arrived, we were missing 14 members of our group, so we spent another hour sitting on the bus, waiting...

But we eventually got moving. We passed this Palestinian town.

A striking feature of the Judean countryside is its hilliness.

We finally see Jerusalem.

That evening we went to Shabbat dinner with our whole group.

Our host is Michael Medved. When we were in our New York motel, I saw he co-wrote an editorial in USA Today with his friend from Yale Law School, Lanni Davis.

Tomorrow is the Shabbat, so we will be taking it easy. Maybe walk around town or something.
